Media Room Wall Unit-Delivered and Installed on Sunday, March 2, 2008

These are just a couple of photos the owner took while I was installing the cabinet. There will be a couple more photos to follow.

There are two floating shelves that overlap the T.V. panel and runt the length of the top to the left that are not installed yet in these photos. I will post them as soon as I receive them.

A Hostess Stand & Planters

This project was a lot of fun. It has a bowed front which I constructed by making ribs which I attached to the front of the cabinet. Then I sheathed it in 1/2" bending Birch. Finally I applied the burled mahogany "laminate" (which is a cool newer product from Formica Brand which has a real wood veneer attached to a plastic laminate backing which you work with and apply just like any plastic laminate).

In these photos the laminate has a protective plastic film on it which I did not remove until it was delivered to protect its flawless satin finish.

The piece was finished off with a 3" thick solid mahogany top and was set upon a 6" high black laminate base/toe kick.

10' Tall x 8' Wide Storage Cabinet for a Condo in Chicago, IL

This was a really cool and challenging project! It obviously need to be constructed in pieces for transportation and installation but look like a single effortless unit and I that it was achieved.

This cabinet was designed to make use of the vertical space in this condo and address multiple storage needs for the client. This condo did not have a coat closet so the first three doors on the right side are actually one door with a close pole inside for hanging coats. In the 3rd column we again have three doors which are actually one that have a pull-out desk top and pull-out shelf to function as a home office and house the owners computer and printer respectively. In the second column, behind the bottom door is a file drawer. There are 3 display "cubes", a cube for Cd's, one for pet food and a couple of catchall's.

Kitchen Storage Cabinet

This cabinet is in the stairwell between the kitchen and living room. In the center of the cabinet is a flip-up slide-in door with translucent glass to hold the owners stereo. There is also a "cutting board" which you can see is slightly pulled out in the photo.

The drawer fronts and doors are made of solid cherry and were finished with catalyzed lacquer and rubbed out with paste wax and fine steel wool.

Note the strip of maple in the edge of the table between the black walnut.
